Entrepreneurship has become a fast-paced world where there is a rush to get an offer out and an even bigger rush to make money. The expectation is overnight success based on doing what you see others doing or what marketing and sales service-providers or coaches told you to do. However, there are building blocks to business that cannot be skipped just because you are in a hurry to hit the milestone of your first 6 figures. Basically, every business needs clarity, structure, and its first strategies before jumping into the deep water of high-level marketing and sales strategies. Let’s discuss a few that lead directly to growth.
Brand Clarity. Many entrepreneurs start by trying to sell to everyone by offering any and everything they know how to sell or do for money. They believe that if they don’t do this they are leaving money on the table. Once they get past a few supports, it’s hard to have consistent revenue. Why? Because the riches really are in the niches. As a consumer, we buy from specialists and not generalists. Knowing exactly who you serve, how you serve them, and having a single forward-facing offer allows you to be known for being good at one thing. People remember you for that one. They not only come to you when they need it but also when they find someone that needs anything close to it they refer people to you. Niching down will actually help your business to growth.
Brand Mission. A lot of businesses jump into business without a why. Well, a why deeper than they just want to make money. Money is a byproduct of something greater. Simon Sinek wants us to Start With Why when leading teams. But your business’ mission, purpose… -why, is the compass that guides the actions of your business. AND it’s the rally cry that influences the growth of a tribe that will be brand loyal. Having something for sale makes you a commodity to be randomly compared to your competitors. Having a mission separates you by giving customers a cause to get behind and identify with. If you just sell shoes, then shoes can be bought from any brand. If you sell shoes that will also put a pair of shoes on the feet of the less fortunate when I buy a pair for myself, then like the brand Tom’s, that’s a cause a lot of people can get behind. Having a mission, in fact, helps your business growth.
Transformation. Just as your business has a mission, so does your offer. That mission is transformation. How will the customer be changed by purchasing your offer? A lot of entrepreneurs make the mistake of giving grave details about the features. If it’s a product, they may give the dimensions, the materials it’s made from, the colors it come in, etc… If it’s a service, they may tell you how long it will take, what is included, what are the steps, etc… That is NOT why people buy. Instead, go deeper into the transformation. What pain does the offer solve? What is it that they are tired of dealing with that they won’t have to deal with anymore? What new life could they live? How will things be better? The answers to those questions describe the transformation and sharing that description everywhere often will add to your bottom line and therefore your business growth.
Consistency. I once heard one of my coaches say something so simple that I think it went over the heads of others in my mastermind. In fact, I barely caught how powerful it was BECAUSE it was so simple. Having coached many entrepreneurs and being in spaces with many entrepreneurs he noticed that those that do well financially, sell more often. Did you catch that? Basically, if you want to make more money, share your offer more often! Let that sink in. You see most entrepreneurs share their offers in big marketing campaigns about once a month. But that means they are only giving themselves one time a month to make money. Instead, you have to find more ways to sell more often. Check out the blog post HERE that talks about some of those ways. It’s a number thang… if you sell more often, you’ll make more sales and that’s growth!!
